Why a Fitness Walking Program Is Necessary
You always hear me say, "walk for 5 minutes after your adjustment." This is important to help the adjustment "set" and help create muscle and joint memory so the adjustment holds and last longer. The most important thing you can do after an adjustment, period. But walking above and beyond that is valuable as well. So keeping with this month's theme of physical activity lets discuss starting a walking fitness program that not only will help with your chiropractic care, but also overall fitness.
You know you want to begin a fitness program, but don't know where to start. It's easy with these tips from http://www.thewalkingsite.com.
How to start: First of all, start out slow and easy. Just walk outside your door for 10 minutes, and walk back. That's it? Yes, that's it. Do this every day for a week. If this was easy for you, add five minutes to your walks next week (total walking time 25 minutes). Keep adding 5 minutes until you are walking as long as desired.

Be sure to drink plenty of water before, during and after walking. Stretch well after your walk. Stretching will make you feel great and assist in injury prevention.
To improve cardiovascular fitness you should walk 3 to 4 days a week, 20 to 30 minutes at a very fast pace.
If you are walking for weight loss you should walk a minimum of five days a week, 45 to 60 minutes at a brisk pace.
